Our story

Breakbreads.com from its original inception was meant to be a respectful place to discuss difficult topics during the height of cancel culture. Luckily, cancel culture has been, by and large, cancelled. In the spring of 2021, as an aspiring artist and freelance writer, the creator decided to launch a simple site entitled, “The Convo”. The intent was to inform and educate, but also to listen and feel. The voices of friends, foes, and community members alike were all welcome. Searching for harmony and balance, the author found creative genius in the artistry of baking—that of flour, water, and salt, and also creative poetry in raw community— that of blood, sweat and tears. Breakbreads.com has a two-fold purpose in that we believe in the power of community and coming together and that we seek to break the “breads of our fathers” so to say. We are not satisfied with the status quo of the gluten epidemic and other food allergies directly related to the takeover of our organic wheat supplies in Western food markets. Bread has been a staple in our world for millennia. Our selection of breads and pastries is meant to harness a richness beyond breaking bread. It’s about partaking of a bread that was broken, not just of wheat molecular modifications, but also of spiritual significance.

We, like our partners, have a philosophy of balance—a balance of old techniques and new ones, of different ingredients (walks of life) and flavors (seasons of life), and of passion and skill.

Our ingredients

We work with 14 local farmers to source all of the grains, fruit, and dairy that go into our breads and pastries. Our bread is human—from the farmers who mill and harvest our grains, to the bakers who put passion and care into each loaf they make.
